| You are the
infinite ocean,
In whom all the things of the world
Rise and fall like waves.
Oh child,
There is nothing to gain,
Nothing to lose,
You are already pure awareness.
Ashtavakra Gita (vedic book), 15: 11-12

YOGA
FOR CHILDREN
Children are natural yogis. Watch children at play, and you will
see them spontaneously strike poses that often happen to be traditional
yoga asanas (postures). Physical activity is natural to children
and vital for their healthy development Yoga works on the whole
body and is suitable for children of all ages and physical abilities.
It promotes strength and flexibility, well coordination and posture.
In our increasingly stressful and noisy lives, it teaches children
to relax, how to concentrate, and to be quiet and still.
WHAT YOGA DOES FOR YOUR CHILDREN?
- The yoga asana (postures) are an ideal way for children to
start enjoying movement and exercises. Improve motor skills and
physical fitness; asanas (postures) develop the children’s
flexibility, strength, balance and postures.
- Breathing exercises teach children to breathe properly and expand
their lung capacity, increasing endurance.
- The relaxation asanas(postures) help children understand not
only how to exercise their bodies, but also how to relax them.
- Yoga helps to balance children’s energy levels. After
Yoga, children who are usually quiet will become more alert, while
active children will become quieter.
- Help children develop awareness of their senses. Yoga helps
children to become more observant. Different games and asanas
encourage them to use their senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste
and especially touch.
- Foster emotional growth: physical well being enhances mental
well being. Yoga addresses the person as a whole, mind and body
are one
- Finally, many of the asanas (postures) give children a better
understanding of how their bodies work and move.
